MOBI-O, the transportation management center of Gatineau and the Outaouais region, is a non-profit organization (NPO) which has at heart the mission to advocate for the development, the implementation and the promotion of solutions concerning sustainable mobility. In order to achieve its mission’s goals, MOBI-O offers two types of services, which are complementary to each other. These services can be used by businesses, institutions, communities and any other organization which generates many transportation needs.
- expertise-advice and accompaniment services in transportation management
- Coordination and implementation services of projects related to sustainable mobility awareness
MOBI-O has the main objective of offering expertise-advice and solutions on transportation issues to businesses, institutions and communities within the territory of the Outaouais and Abitibi-Témiscamingue regions.
Since its creation in 2012, MOBI-O
- Develops proven tools and services which ease business travel;
- Encourages and supports employers to implement concrete actions related to sustainable transport;
- Helps employers promote their initiatives to their employees, their clients, and the public;
- Contributes to reducing the number of solo drivers by encouraging the use of viable transportation means such as collective transportation, walking, cycling, carpooling and carsharing.
MOBI-O was founded following the elaboration of the Stratégie de gestion des déplacements pour Gatineau et sa région (SGDG) which was realized between the years 2008 and 2010 by the City of Gatineau the Société de Transport de l’Outaouais, Vivre en ville and AECOM.
In fact, the SGDG had then recommended the creation of an organizational structure which specializes in transport management, adapted and specific to the context of Gatineau. The creation of the Transportation Management Center of Gatineau (TMC) was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Ministère du transport du Québec via the Programme d’aide gouvernementale aux modes de transport alternatifs à l’automobile (PAGMTAA).
Thus, in September 2012, MOBI-O opened its doors and became the first ever expert-adivsor in Gatineau specialized in the transport sector. It responded to the necessity of taking action towards :
